I have a 1999 ford focus and the central locking wont work. Now the lock on the drivers door wont unlock when you insert the key in but will lock it.

My door locks work sometimes. I took the car to the Morgan hill ford store and they said that there was nothing wrong. I showed the sales guy what the problem was and they wanted to charge me 1300 to fix the drivers door only and then it would be an extra charge to fix the 3 doors (separately).

I didn't find out that it was going to be an extra charge for to get the other doors fixed until I got my car back and only the drivers door worked. I took the car back right away and then got the bad news. I didn't have an extra $1300 to fix any of the other doors so I'm still locking and unlocking my doors manually. I can open the front doors by pulling really hard if I am inside, one of the backdoors I can pull the latch up with needle nose pliers from inside, the other I can't open once it locks. I have fought the dealership as well as corporate Ford and they won't do anything, they say they are aware of the problem but won't do anything about it. This is a safety issue, I had an infant get locked in the back thank heavens I wasn't in a wreck, we took her out and had to leave her car seat in the back (this is how I figured out the needle nose plier trick). I have 3 kids in the back of my car almost all the time and it scares me if I crash, they may or may not be able to get out. I can never lock my car, because I may not be able to get back in, and now the drivers door doesn't always lock anyways, even when I'm going down the road and it used to auto lock.

Shortly after we purchased the car the passenger door locked and would not unlock. I had to crawl in through the window and drag my invalid husband through the driver's door and into the passenger seat. Shortly after that, the back doors locked and would not unlock, inside or out. Than both front doors would not unlock. Than the driver's door developed the same problem. I had all the locks replaced under warranty and within 2 months, they were doing the same thing. I took it back to Ford and told them this was not acceptable and I felt it was an electrical problem, not mechanical.

They replaced them again and charged me $450, since it was out of warranty. Within a month of that fix (8/2012) They quit working again. The driver's side back door won't LOCK at all, the passenger side back door won't UNLOCK at all and the two front doors take turns not UNLOCKING and sometimes do it at the same time.My only solution to this is to leave my car unlocked when I get out and a front window down, so I can get in and out of the DAMNED THING!!!! I am 68 years old and am sick and tired of crawling over seats and through windows, causing my back to go out.

• 2 Answers SOURCE: OK. Top 40 Gratis En 2012 here. Now I have come across this myself and have done the following to fix it. First you need to know if the power door lock actuator is bad or not. If the driver door locks and unlocks with the inner driver door main control switch then it is not bad.
